Owan Poovey is a senior at Decatur High School. He is the son of Dr. Rachel Poovey and Mr. Michael Poovey, Jr. Owan enjoys football, soccer, working for The Wenzler Agency, Young Life of Morgan County, and youth activities at Central United Methodist Church. He plans to attend the University of Alabama to pursue a degree in business with a minor in real estate.
Owan has chosen to run for Carnegie Carnival Prince to get to know his community better through volunteer activities and community events that will support the arts that he has been taught to respect, honor, and enjoy. He also wants to support Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) that he has seen in action and heard stories of their support of children in Morgan County, as he is surrounded by educators sharing stories of students in need and families in struggle. Owan saw firsthand the value of running for Carnegie Royalty as he supported his sister in her efforts three years ago. He has watched how the funds raised were used to benefit Morgan County’s community and children. The opportunity to get out into the community has been limited by COVID over much of Owan’s time in high school, and he is excited to help reignite some community activities to support great causes.
