Lauren Cantrell-Salerno, a Decatur, AL native, grew up in the local arts community. The daughter of a theatre artist and musician, she spent a great deal of her youth performing with companies like Dream Weavers and Bank Street Players at the Princess Theatre…so she decided to make a career of it. Lauren received her BA in Theatre from Birmingham-Southern College, and an MFA in Theatre from Sarah Lawrence College. After spending some time in New York, she and her husband, Mike, moved to Decatur in 2009.
Lauren is currently the theatre instructor at Wallace State Community College, and choirmaster at St. John’s Episcopal Church. Lauren serves as President of the Board of Directors for Bank Street Players, is a member of Actors’ Equity Association, and an associate member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society. She’s also currently pursuing a doctorate in Higher Education Administration at the University of Alabama.
Lauren and Mike have one very animated son, Leo, for whom she hopes the arts community in Decatur will continue to grow and thrive. She couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity to raise money for the Carnegie Visual Arts Center and to continue to promote the arts in our wonderful community!
